Gas Mileage Secrets That Help Save You Money

There are no gas mileage secrets that oil companies are trying to hide from you. There are common sense tips to help you save money by getting more mileage from the gasoline that you put into your vehicle. If you have never paid any attention to the mileage you get from the gas its is quite likely that with the rising prices you now realize that you are not able to drive the same distance on the same amount of gas. In that regard once you learn of the various tips to help you increase this you may think that someone has been keeping secrets from you all those years.

There are several things you can do to increase the amount of mileage you get from a tank of gas. You should make sure you vehicle’s engine is in top running condition. Having the oil changed on a regular basis will help you in this regard because the engine will burn more fuel when the oil is thick. Check the air pressure of the tries from time to time. It take more fuel when the tires are not inflated to the proper level but you do have to keep in mind that over inflating them will also burn more fuel.

The air filter on your vehicle is a relatively inexpensive part to buy. Check the air filter from time to time to make sure it is not clogged. You don’t even have to pay for the installation service when you learn to replace it on your own. Check the owner’s manual to find out what type of filter your vehicle takes. If you do a lot of driving on dirt roads you will need to change the filter more often than if you do most of your driving on the highway or in the city.

The spark plugs are another feature than can cause decreased mileage. Make sure they are working properly and replace then when you notice that they are starting to wear out. High octane gas costs more than regular gas. By choosing regular gas when you pull in at the pumps it won’t cost you as much to fill up. However there are vehicles that will only run properly on this type of fuel.

Although you may reach your destination a few minutes sooner you can save money and increase your rate of mileage by driving at the posted speed limits. Not only will you burn less gas but you also decrease the risk of getting a speeding ticket. Idling the car when you are waiting in the driveway is a waste of fuel. You are not moving so why let the engine burn up the gas. It is better to turn off the engine while you wait and then start the vehicle when you are ready to move. Many people let their vehicles idle for a long time when they first start them on cold winter mornings but if you look at the reports from the experts your engine only needs about three minutes to be warmed enough for you to move. If you plug the vehicle in at night you can even eliminate this length of time.

Formula One Woes Continue For Honda

Honda Racing Formula One Team was looking to take their first point/s of the season going into Sundays United States Grand Prix. But after a poor showing at the race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway it looks as if Honda would have to wait for the next race to break into the scoring column.

Drivers Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button seemed to have switched places after the Canadian Grand Prix. At the race held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal Barrichello only managed to take the twelfth spot while Button was forced to retire. At the United States Grand Prix it was Button who finished twelfth and Barrichello was forced to retire.

Barrichello was involved in an accident which retired not only him but Toyotas Ralf Schumacher and Red Bulls David Coulthard as well. It can be remembered that these three have been the leading contenders to Michael Schumachers dominance in the early 2000s. The incident happened only on the opening lap and Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg escaped the collision.

While Button may have avoided the crash which might have forced him to retire he only managed a twelfth place finish. While the British Button said that the race was fun he is disappointed with the result.

It was a fun race today but ultimately another disappointing afternoon for us he said. At the start I was on the outside and I was hit by Rubens which damaged the front of my car along with the bodywork. That forced me across the grass and left me almost at the back of the field which was disappointing. Still it was a fun race with some good overtaking until my pit stop when we had a problem with the fuel rig which cost me time and then I had about 15kg too much fuel in the car which compromised the rest of the race. We were just off the pace again and we now have a lot of work to do next week in Jerez to move our performance on.

Meanwhile Barrichello is also looking forward to Jerez and attributed the accident to bad luck. I think it was just an unlucky first corner racing incident today. I tried to avoid a spinning Ralf and unfortunately hit two cars one of which was Jenson. The contact broke my front suspension and that was it for me today. Sadly Jenson’s car was damaged as well. We have an important test next week in Jerez so the team just has to look forward now and focus on improving our performance for the rest of the season he shares.

The United States Grand Prix was won by the rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton who now leads the drivers championship standings with 58 points to his credit. His teammate Fernando Alonso took the second spot as McLaren dominates the early going of the 2007 Formula One season. It seems that even road bound McLarens equipped with Kleen wheels will barely catch up with Hamilton and Alonso. Felipe Massa of Ferrari took the third place just ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen on fourth. McLaren now has 106 points in the constructors championship while Ferrari trails at 71.

Ford Service

How to save money on your next Ford service

Ford servicing is now much cheaper for those in the know.

Thanks to European legislation you no longer have to be tied to high Ford service costs dictated by your local dealer.

In October 2003 new European legislation affecting the motor industry came into force called Block Exemption Regulation 14002002 BER and this now means that you can book your next Ford car service online and save up to 50 on what you might pay at your local Ford dealer.

Before the law changed it was difficult to have new cars within their warranty period serviced outside a franchised dealer. If you wanted to shop around for the best prices on Ford servicing your hands were tied.

The change in the law now gives every car owner the freedom to service their car away from the main dealers and still have their warranty protected.

Thousands of Ford car owners have now taken advantage of their new right and reduced their Ford serving costs whilst benefiting from the convenience of booking with national car service providers such as Service A Car.

Service A Car is a leading online car servicing network that prides itself on the quality of its Ford servicing their customer service and transparent pricing. Because the company is not tied to any particular car manufacturer they are able to service any make of vehicle and compete freely in the market on a likeforlike.

Every vehicle is rigorously serviced according to the manufacturers servicing schedule using genuine recommended parts fitted by qualified technicians. This means that every Ford car service fulfils the warranty criteria and there is no compromise on the servicing standards of a main dealer.

Companies like Service A Car who fulfil the warranty criteria when servicing your Ford are able to maintain your service book just as main dealer can thereby protecting your warranty and helping you to maximise the resale value of your Ford car.

Of course booking direct with a national car servicing network has its own advantages:
You no longer have to do all the running around. Service A Car collects your Ford in the morning and delivers it back that afternoon free of charge
You pay a fixed Ford service price which can be up to 50 below the price at the Ford servicing desk of your local dealer
No additional work is carried out without your agreement which means no nasty surprises when it comes to paying the bill
Trained Customer Advisers are on hand throughout the day to keep you informed of progress and report back on problems you asked to be investigated as part of your Ford service e.g. knocks and rattles
Your Ford service includes a free wash and vacuum clean
You simply pay with your credit or debit card and your car is delivered back to your home or work address.

Our advice for saving money on Ford car servicing is to contact a national car servicing network who is not tied to any one particular car manufacturer like Service A Car.

So before you book your next Ford service why not ask your local dealer to tell you the cost of the service plus parts oil and any extras and then compare it with a fixed price quote from a national servicing network like Service A Car?

Happy motoring
Howard.
